Liverpool ready to return for Marc Guehi in January

Liverpool are ready to return for Marc Guehi ahead of the January window after dramatically failing to sign the defender on deadline day.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are not expected to give up on the Marc Guehi chase, as they are set to return in the January window. The Crystal Palace star’s move to Anfield collapsed dramatically in the eleventh hour on deadline day, and could be made available on a cut-price deal in the winter market.

Liverpool were on course to have a smashing finish to their summer window, but a late collapse led to a sour end. The Reds began deadline day with tremendous news on Alexander Isak, having finally found a breakthrough with Newcastle United to sign the coveted striker.

Then they shifted their focus to complete another big move for key defensive target Marc Guehi. Liverpool found an agreement with Palace on the fee, but the move was dependent on the Londoners finding the right replacement before the window slammed shut.

There were links to Axel Disasi, who rejected Palace as well as West Ham. The big news came in the form of the Eagles pursuing a late deal for Igor Julio from Brighton, but the Brazilian reportedly turned down a switch to Selhurst Park, which led to the deal collapsing.

With barely any time left in the window, Crystal Palace decided to cancel the Guehi transfer to Liverpool and keep the defender. It appears, manager Oliver Glasner played a critical role in keeping Guehi, and overall, Liverpool fans are irked by the decision, which was a natural reaction.

Liverpool to make Marc Guehi move in January

Liverpool are now expected to return to the table for Guehi when the January window opens to thrash out a fresh agreement. The 25-year-old target could be available for a lower price than in the summer, although there will be doubts whether Crystal Palace will agree to sell him midway through the season. However, there’s a sense of optimism from Liverpool’s side to get a deal done in the winter window.

The challenge for Liverpool might come in the form of some big rivals, who will also angle for a move for the defender. Real Madrid have admired him for a long time, and they could be in the mix for the 25-year-old target, as they are also eager to lure Liverpool man Ibrahima Konate on a free transfer next year. The path for Liverpool towards Guehi will not be as straightforward as it was during the summer window.
