Aston Villa never received a bid for Emiliano Martinez
Aston Villa never received a formal bid for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez despite heavy speculation during the summer window.
According to Sky Sports, Aston Villa did not receive any bids for goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez during the summer or deadline day. Speculation surrounding the Argentine stopper indicated that he was expected to leave Villa Park during the window, but there was a big chance he stays put for the duration of the campaign.
Emiliano Martinez was teary-eyed during Aston Villa’s final home game of last season, as he was seen waving to the Villa Park faithful, which resembled a goodbye of sorts. Speculation then grew around the keeper’s immediate future, with many quarters indicating a departure seemed inevitable for the player who joined the club in a £17 million deal from Arsenal back in 2020.
Many credible links were established, such as the Saudi Pro League, as well as many top clubs within England and Europe. Manchester United were linked earlier, with some suggestions pointing towards talks taking place between the two clubs.
The Red Devils were expected to make a move for a new keeper following the lack of confidence in existing choices Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir heading into the new campaign. However, in reality, the pursuit never moved forward, although there was the belief that Emiliano Martinez would get his move away one way or another.
In what was a window of massive movement with goalkeepers, ironically, the ‘World’s Best Goalkeeper’ could not leave his club despite his desire to do so. Manchester United were once again linked on deadline day, but Aston Villa had reportedly ruled out a move to Old Trafford.
Aston Villa did not receive any bids for Emiliano Martinez
It appears, despite rumours of interest in Martinez, Aston Villa never received a bid. While it was widely stated in the media that Manchester United were indeed looking at the £17 million star, they shifted their attention towards rising Belgian star Senne Lammens and got the deal over the line.
As for Emiliano Martinez, should he seriously seek an exit out of Aston Villa, there could be a small hope with Turkish sides, with the window over there open for more than a week from now. For now, he will have to be considered as an Aston Villa player for the foreseeable future, and should end up staying beyond the expiry of the Turkish window, he might be reinstated as Unai Emery’s No.1 choice.
