Tyrique George move to AS Roma stalls as talks pause, RB Leipzig in contact for late deal

AS Roma’s pursuit of Chelsea prospect Tyrique George has reached a standstill, with RB Leipzig now entering the race.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tyrique George is unlikely to join AS Roma on transfer deadline day. The Serie A giants were front-runners for his signature but have been unable to strike a deal with Chelsea in time. For now, the transfer is off.

Since Roma have not been able to strike a deal for him, the door is now open for other clubs to try and sign the teenage sensation. According to Philipp Hinze, RB Leipzig have entered the race for his services, establishing contact with Chelsea as they consider a last-ditch effort to sign him.

Tyrique George has been a part of the Chelsea setup since his childhood days. He went up the ranks at some pace and got promoted to the first team towards the end of 2024. He forced his way into Enzo Maresca’s plans last season and enjoyed a breakthrough campaign.

So far, he has been involved in 27 matches for their first team and has contributed towards eight goals. While the 19-year-old is quite highly rated by people at the club, he was way down the pecking order following the number of offensive signings they have made this summer.

Tyrique George to AS Roma is now off

With regular game time unlikely this seasono, George is pushing for a move away, and Chelsea are open to a potential departure as long as their demands are met. While there has been no shortage of interest in him, AS Roma have been the front-runners for weeks.

The Serie A giants were looking for a versatile forward and considered George an ideal fit for their project. While the Giallorossi were hoping to strike a deal with the Blues on deadline day, having already tabled an offer, things have not gone according to plan for them.

Leipzig’s last-ditch effort to sign George

AS Roma have not been able to agree on terms with Chelsea, and the move is now off. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig have spotted the opportunity and have already established contact with Chelsea and the 19-year-old. The Bundesliga outfit are once again discussing the possibility of signing the young forward.

RB Leipzig are seeking more depth in the final third, and George could be a great option for the long run. A surprise move to Leipzig on deadline day is on the cards, and it is one to watch out for until the end.
