Tottenham establish contact over late move for Benjamin Pavard

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old French international Benjamin Pavard from Inter Milan in the final hours of the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Benjamin Pavard is the subject of interest of Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on signing a versatile defender before the summer transfer window shuts down, and they have established contact over a possible move for the Inter Milan utility man. Meanwhile, the Frenchman is also a target for Barcelona and Manchester United.

Benjamin Pavard and his career so far

Benjamin Pavard has been one of the best defenders in the world for over half a dozen years. The French utility man rose in prominence during his spell with VfB Stuttgart before enjoying a solid spell with Bayern Munich. He has continued his upward trajectory since joining Inter Milan in August 2023, making 70 appearances and chipping in with one goal and four assists while winning the Serie A title in his debut season

Pavard has also enjoyed tremendous success in international football, winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old versatile defender’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs, including Barcelona, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur.

A man in demand

Barcelona may dip into the market for a centre-back in the final hours of the summer transfer window if an opportunity presents itself. The reigning La Liga champions have parted ways with Inigo Martinez, while Ronald Araujo faces an uncertain future at the Catalan club amid his recent Premier League links. So, Pavard is an option worth considering for Barcelona.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s interest in Benjamin Pavard is surprising. While Harry Maguire is on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of his career, Ruben Amorim has a stacked central defensive unit. Nevertheless, the Frenchman is a target for Manchester United for the final hours of the summer transfer window.

However, Tottenham will aim to beat Barcelona and Manchester United to Pavard’s signature after establishing contact over a deadline-day deal. The World Cup winner has been on the North London clubs’ radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as the 29-year-old French international can be an upgrade on Kevin Danso and Radu Dragusin at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With Tottenham launching a late move to sign Pavard, it will be interesting to see how Barcelona and Manchester United respond. However, it is unclear if Inter Milan will be open to parting ways with the Frenchman in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
