Official: Rasmus Hojlund completes loan move to Napoli
Serie A champions Napoli have officially completed a season-long loan move to sign 22-year-old Danish striker Rasmus Hojlund from Manchester United.
In an official statement on Manchester United’s website, the Red Devils have confirmed that they have sanctioned a season-long loan deal for Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international has joined Napoli, and the Serie A champions can complete a permanent move next summer.
The Italian club’s official statement suggests they have a mandatory purchase clause in the agreement with Manchester United for Hojlund’s transfer. However, a report by James Horncastle of The Athletic has revealed that the Serie A champions have a conditional obligation to “make the transfer permanent” for €44 million next summer.
A summer of frustrations at Manchester United for many
The summer transfer window has seen unprofessional behaviour by several players seeking moves away from Manchester United. Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony have not made things easy for the decision-makers at the Premier League club. However, Rasmus Hojlund does not fall into that category, even though he had no future at Old Trafford.
The 22-year-old Dane was adamant that he was ready to fight for his place in Ruben Amorim’s starting lineup. However, it quickly became clear that the Manchester United manager did not have the young striker in his plans. Hojlund managed 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances for Manchester United. However, he played his final game for the Premier League club several weeks ago.
Rasmus Hojlund set for Serie A return
Rasmus Hojlund’s situation piqued the attention of several clubs before Napoli advanced the talks to secure his services in the summer transfer window. The Serie A club’s interest in the Danish striker has made sense, as they have lost Romelu Lukaku to a long-term hamstring injury.
So, Antonio Conte demanded a new striker from the market, with Hojlund emerging as a viable target. Personal terms were never an issue, and Napoli secured an agreement to sign the Dane on loan a few days ago. The move is now official, with the Partenopei signing the youngster on a season-long loan deal with a purchase obligation clause.
Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Napoli will pay a loan fee worth €6 million, and James Horncastle has claimed that the conditional obligation clause will cost €44 million. It will be interesting to see how the 22-year-old Danish international fares after ending his Manchester United misery.
