Odsonne Edouard set to join RC Lens as deal agreed

Odsonne Edouard is reportedly all set to join Ligue 1 club RC Lens as they have an agreement in place with Crystal Palace.

According to an update by reputed French journalist Fabrice Hawkins, Crystal Palace have agreed a deal with RC Lens to sell Odsonne Edouard. The French striker was surplus to requirements at Selhurst Park, and the South London outfit have managed to raise a decent fee from his departure.

Edouard joined the Eagles back in 2021 from Celtic. While the Eagles had a lot of expectations from the 27-year-old, he failed to establish himself as one of their mainstays. Over the years, he was involved in 105 matches and contributed towards 26 goals.

Since the Frenchman was not an important part of Oliver Glasner’s plans, Crystal Palace ended up sending him out on loan to Leicester City last season. The move did not go according to plan as he was involved in just eight fixtures and racked up less than 250 minutes of first-team action.

While the 27-year-old is back at his parent club, he has no future at Selhurst Park under Glasner. With his contract running out in less than 12 months, the Eagles have been actively looking to cash in on the French striker, with recent reports linking him with OGC Nice.

Edouard is on his way to RC Lens

Ligue 1 club RC Lens emerged as a potential destination for the PSG graduate. The French outfit are looking to add more quality and depth to their attack and feel Odsonne Edouard could help their cause despite his disappointing loan spell at Leicester last time out.

With his contract running out, the Eagles were ready to accept a bargain fee, and Lens have managed to strike a deal after a few rounds of negotiations. Both clubs have an agreement in place on a transfer that will cost €5 million in total (including bonuses).

The out-of-favour Crystal Palace striker will be signing a three-year deal with the Ligue 1 outfit. He is expected to be in Lens in a few hours’ time to undergo a medical at his new club and finalise the transfer. Following his departure, the Eagles have raised a small amount and made room in their squad.
