Fulham rule out Raheem Sterling move
Fulham have ruled out a potential move for Chelsea misfit Raheem Sterling following their signings of two new wingers late in the window.
According to Give Me Sport, Fulham have potentially ruled out a late swoop for Raheem Sterling after signing their desired wingers on deadline day. The Cottagers had revived talks for the Chelsea misfit earlier today, but as things stand, the experienced attacker will stay put at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea failed with yet another gamble on Raheem Sterling as they have left it very late in the window to find a solution for the high-earning member of their team. The Blues, under the new ownership, have been mindful of bloated wages on player contracts and had hoped to find a solution for Sterling.
They were given some hope earlier today, as Fulham had revived talks for the winger. The Cottagers were scrambling to get attacking signings through the door ahead of the transfer deadline, as there were concerns over a move for Samuel Chukwueze from AC Milan and Kevin from Shakhtar Donetsk.
Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed the acquisition of Kevin, after Fulham found an agreement on personal terms with the winger. They had already reached an agreement on the fee with Shakhtar Donetsk a few days ago, but were struggling to get the player on board.
Then, Romano confirmed the Here We Go on the Chukwueze deal, meaning Fulham have secured their priority targets. The late revival in talks for Sterling was part of their strategy to have a contingent option in case either of the Kevin or Chukwueze deals failed.
Raheem Sterling to remain at Chelsea?
Should Sterling remain at Chelsea beyond the deadline, it’s bad news for the Blues and their wage bill. The Chelsea misfit earns over £300,000 a week in wages, and even though Enzo Maresca does not count the 30-year-old as part of his plans, the club may have to keep paying him his salary. Their inability to find a solution shows the struggle behind finding suitors for the winger.
There’s still some hope, given the Turkish window closes only on September 11, and Besiktas were interested at one point. However, there will be some doubts whether the player would want to take a massive pay cut to leave his current surroundings and join the Turkish league, and he still has two years left on his Chelsea deal.
