Fabio Vieira set to join Hamburger SV as deal agreed
Fabio Vieira is heading towards joining Hamburg on a season-long loan deal with a buy option in place as part of the agreement with Arsenal.
According to Ben Jacobs, Fabio Vieira is all set to join Hamburg on a season-long loan deal from Arsenal, with the agreement set to include a buy option of some sort. The Gunners considered the Portuguese attacking midfielder not fit for their system and had been actively looking to find a solution to his immediate future.
Fabio Vieira is expected to leave Arsenal before the transfer window shuts, as Hamburg are now closing in on a deal for the Portuguese star. Mikel Arteta allowed the €40 million Arsenal flop to leave last summer on a dry loan to former side FC Porto, but there were no advances made to make the deal permanent.
There were plenty of clubs showing mild interest in signing the attacking midfielder during the summer, as Stuttgart were in talks to sign him permanently. However, the talks never advanced for the sale, as the Bundesliga side could not come close to Arsenal’s demands for the midfielder.
While there was a chance to sell the €40 million Arsenal flop to Stuttgart, the Gunners stuck to their valuation, which made the deal unachievable for the Bundesliga side. West Ham were also keen on Vieira, but the interest was not seen as serious enough to get a push.
Bundesliga newcomers Hamburg SV have now closed in on Vieira to sign the attacking midfielder on loan. Talks are potentially at an advanced stage to get this deal done, as the German side are looking at options that improve their chances of survival in the upcoming season.
Arsenal set to agree Fabio Vieira loan
Arsenal’s signing of Eberechi Eze was probably the final nail in the coffin for Vieira’s future, as there’s no more space for the €40 million Arsenal flop to stay with Arteta’s squad. The possible agreement with Hamburg has a €20 million buy option, as reported by Florian Plettenberg.
With two years left on his Arsenal deal, it’s a bit of a risk for the north Londoners to get a loan with a buy option rather than an obligation. However, should Vieira perform to his best levels at Hamburg, they will potentially have a good chance to sell him for a decent fee when the Portuguese star returns to Arsenal next year.
