Charlton Athletic, Preston North End eyeing David Datro Fofana swoop

Charlton Athletic and Preston North End are interested in acquiring the services of Chelsea attacking prospect David Datro Fofana.

According to a report from Football Insider, Charlton Athletic and Preston North End are both keen on adding more firepower to their attack and are interested in the services of David Datro Fofana. They have knocked on the doors of Chelsea to enquire about a potential loan move.

After making a name for himself at Molde, Datro Fofana joined the Blues in 2023 in a deal worth £10 million. However, the move hasn’t really gone according to plan for him, as he has only made four senior appearances for the London club.

The 22-year-old striker has spent a significant amount of time out on loan, and he could be heading through the exit door on deadline day. He is not a part of Enzo Maresca’s long-term plans; as a result, multiple top clubs are keen on signing the Ivorian international.

Several clubs from the English second division want to sign Datro Fofana before the end of the transfer window. The report suggests there is a loan and permanent transfer interest from at least two second-tier clubs and other European outfits.

While he still has four years left on his deal at Chelsea and they are in complete control of his future, there is a high possibility of the Blues sanctioning his departure. Charlton Athletic and Preston North End have emerged as potential destinations for the 22-year-old.

Datro Fofana could be heading to the Championship

The duo are looking to beat the competition and have already established contact with the Premier League giants. With four years left on his deal, Chelsea could look for a significant fee for a permanent transfer. As a result, both clubs are looking to sign him on a temporary basis.

They have made a loan enquiry and are waiting for the London club’s response. Charlton have already signed Charlie Kelman and Tanto Olaofe, but they are keen on adding more firepower to their ranks following last season’s promotion.

Meanwhile, Preston seek more competition in the final third. They want someone who can challenge their current forwards for a place in the starting XI and consider Datro Fofana an ideal fit. Having scored just four goals in their first four league outings, they are desperate for more firepower in the final third.
