Rasmus Hojlund set to undergo Napoli medical on Sunday

Manchester United outcast Rasmus Hojlund is reportedly set to join Napoli, and he will undergo his medical on Sunday.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Rasmus Hojlund is expected to complete a move to Napoli before deadline day. The Naples-based club have a full agreement in place with Manchester United for the Danish striker, who is set to undergo a medical at his new club on Sunday.

Hojlund made quite a name for himself at Atalanta before joining the Red Devils in the summer of 2023. While United had massive expectations from the Danish international, he hasn’t been able to live up to them.

The 22-year-old has failed to establish himself in Ruben Amorim’s squad, and his future has been uncertain since the start of the summer. The Red Devils have been looking to cash in, and following the arrival of Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, his departure became almost inevitable.

Although multiple top clubs had been linked with him throughout the summer, nothing concrete materialised. Eventually, Napoli emerged as a serious contender for his signature. With Romelu Lukaku sidelined by a long-term injury, signing a new striker has become a top priority for the Naples-based club.

Hojlund was already on their wishlist, and with Lukaku out, the Italian giants decided to accelerate their pursuit of the Danish striker. After long-drawn negotiations with United, Napoli have finally reached an agreement.

Napoli strike a deal for Hojlund

All formal details have been finalised, and the Manchester-based giants have given Hojlund the green light to travel to Naples. The Italian outfit have booked a flight for the Danish striker, who is expected to be in Rome today.

A medical has already been booked. Once all the necessary checks are done, both clubs are expected to make an official announcement of the transfer. Antonio Conte is set to have a young, dynamic forward in his squad for the 2025/26 season.

While Hojlund hasn’t been able to establish himself at United, he certainly has the talent to turn things around. Napoli will be hoping it clicks for the 22-year-old at their club. They are paying a €6 million loan fee, and there is a buy obligation worth €44 million, which depends on Champions League qualification.

Napoli have also added an €80 million release clause to his contract in case the move becomes permanent by the end of the season. The player was pushing to sort out his future this summer, and the buy obligation might have played a big part in convincing him about the move.
