Atletico Madrid close in on final summer signing – but registration concerns could scupper deal
Atletico Madrid have made eight new signings this summer (10 in total), and number nine now appears to be on the way with less than 36 hours of the transfer window to go.
It’s no secret that Atleti are looking for a right winger to complete Diego Simeone’s attacking options, and in the last couple of weeks, their leading target has been Nicolas Gonzalez. Personal terms have already been agreed with the Argentina international, with the sticking point being negotiations with Juventus.
However, that hurdle has almost been overcome, with Matteo Moretto reporting that Juventus have relaxed their demands. The Serie A giants are now willing to accept a paid loan with an option to buy that could become mandatory.

Atleti may not have the salary space to register Gonzalez
An agreement has not been reached yet, but it is almost there. However, the process would still not be done anyway, as Atleti may not have the salary space required to be able to register Gonzalez if he were to arrive. Currently, discussions are ongoing with La Liga in regards to the situation.
If they receive a negative response from La Liga, Atleti may need to move on from Gonzalez – or more likely, try to sell a first team player. There is interest in Conor Gallagher, while Nahuel Molina has also attracted attention throughout the summer.
There is no doubt that the final hours of the summer transfer window will be busy for Atleti, who are determined to make Gonzalez their final signing. It cannot be said with any certainty yet that this will be possible, but club officials are working to ensure that La Liga would allow the 27-year-old to become the latest member of Simeone’s squad. For now, the situation remains unclear, but a resolution will be known soon.
