West Ham United reject offer to sign Andre Onana
Intermediaries offered West Ham United the chance to 29-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana, with the East London outfit reportedly rejecting the proposal.
According to a report by the Daily Mail, intermediaries gave West Ham United the opportunity to sign Andre Onana from Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The Hammers are keen on signing another goalkeeper in the final days of the summer transfer window despite landing Mads Hermansen from Leicester City.
So, the Manchester United shot-stopper could have been an option for the East London outfit. However, the Hammers have ruled out a summer move for Onana, as they do not “think he is as good as what they already have” in their goalkeeping department. So, West Ham will look elsewhere for goalkeeper, and Onana will likely remain at Manchester United.
Andre Onana and his Manchester United career so far
Andre Onana has endured a topsy-turvy since joining Manchester United from Inter Milan in a deal worth €51 million in July 2023. While the former Ajax goalkeeper arrived at Old Trafford amid hype surrounding him after his exploits for Inter Milan, the decision to replace David de Gea with him divided opinions among the Manchester United fans. The 29-year-old has not helped himself with his calamitous displays between the sticks.
The Cameroonian international has made 100 appearances thus far for Manchester United while keeping 24 clean sheets and conceding 148 goals. Meanwhile, Onana faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim preferred Altay Bayindir over him in the first two matches of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
What next?
Recent reports have suggested that Ruben Amorim is ready to sanction Andre Onana’s sale in the summer transfer window. Since then, several clubs have shown interest in the former Inter Milan shot-stopper, with intermediaries offering West Ham United the chance to secure his services in a late move.
The Hammers have already reinforced their goalkeeping unit by signing Mads Hermansen from Leicester City earlier in the summer transfer window. However, West Ham will be open to landing another goalkeeper. However, the East London outfit will not sign Onana, and they have rejected the offer to secure his services.
The decision-makers at West Ham have relayed that they do not “think he was is good as what they already have” in their goalkeeping department. So, West Ham will look elsewhere for a goalkeeper. As for Onana, the 29-year-old Cameroonian goalkeeper’s future remains uncertain amid Manchester United’s links with Senne Lammens.
