Real Madrid line up €115 million move for Adam Wharton

Real Madrid are gearing up to make a €115 million offer for Liverpool and Manchester United midfield target Adam Wharton in 2026.

According to a report from Fichajes, Real Madrid are keen on acquiring the services of Adam Wharton. Los Blancos have made him a priority target following a request from their manager, Xabi Alonso. However, signing him won’t be that straightforward, as Crystal Palace would want a fortune, and there will be significant competition from the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.

Wharton has only gone from strength to strength since joining the Eagles from Blackburn at the start of 2024. He has established himself as a key figure in their team, and his impressive performances have also helped him break into the English national team.

While the 21-year-old prefers playing as a defensive midfielder, he is capable enough to feature in advanced roles. His exceptional performances and massive potential have put him on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in the world.

English giants Manchester United and Liverpool both have their eyes set on the defensive midfielder. They are always on the lookout for young players with massive potential and feel Wharton could become one of the mainstays of their new project.

With Casemiro in the final phase of his career, Wharton could be seen as an ideal successor. Meanwhile, Arne Slot is in search of another holding midfielder, and the Crystal Palace star could provide a solution for both the short and long term.

Madrid are ready to break the bank for Wharton

However, the Premier League outfits might struggle to secure his services, as Real Madrid have their eyes set on the 21-year-old. Los Blancos are on the lookout for their next big star. Alonso is keen on adding another midfielder to the mix, with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric no longer at the club.

The Spanish manager wants someone who can sit deep, create and dictate the pace. Wharton is seen as an ideal fit for that role. The left-footed defensive midfielder has great vision, and he is capable of breaking the lines with vertical passes.

At the request of Alonso, Los Blancos have made him a priority target. While they would love to sign him this summer, that is unlikely to happen as it will require a massive outlay. With Rodrygo going nowhere, Real Madrid are looking at the new summer window as the ideal time to sign the English international.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace value him at €115 million, and they are unlikely to lower their demands, having just sold Eberechi Eze to Arsenal. While the valuation makes things difficult, the Spanish giants seem willing to break the bank for the 21-year-old, as he is a solution for the short as well as the long run.
