Predicted Manchester United lineup against Burnley: Bruno Fernandes, Cunha to start in much-changed side

Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha will return to the Manchester United starting lineup for the game against Burnley at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Manchester United will be desperate to return to winning ways and get the 2025/26 campaign back on track when they welcome Burnley to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon. Ruben Amorim has no new issues to worry about ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Lisandro Martinez is the long-term absentee, with the Argentine international recovering from a knee injury that will keep him sidelined for a few more weeks. Noussair Mazraoui is closing in on returning from a hamstring issue. However, the Moroccan international will not return before the international break.

Meanwhile, Amorim discussed his squad’s situation during a conversation with MUTV, although he did not provide a fitness update on any player. He said, “[The squad is looking] Really well. I had some choices to make [for the weekend’s side]. It was hard. I tried to choose the best starting XI, knowing that, sometimes, it’s not the starting XI that is going to finish or close the game, so everyone is really important.”

During his pre-match press conference, the Manchester United manager addressed questions surrounding his future. However, one topic that stood out was the discussion on Kobbie Mainoo amid speculation surrounding the English international. He also chose not to answer questions about Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund ahead of their impending departures.

The Portuguese tactician said, “No, until it’s official, I cannot say much. I want Kobbie to stay. He needs to fight for his place and we need Kobbie. That is not going to change, the rest I don’t know how it’s going to finish. I understand that the players who are not playing in this moment are disappointed. Everyone will have the same opportunity to play, you have to fight during the week.”

Altay Bayindir will replace Andre Onana between the sticks after the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s calamitous performance in the EFL Cup second-round defeat to Grimsby Town. Manchester United will line up in a 3-4-2-1 formation in front of the Turkish international against Burnley, with Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Luke Shaw forming the central defensive unit.

Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu should continue as the two wing-backs, with Amad Diallo returning to the bench. As for the midfield unit, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes should pair up in the middle of the park. Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Mason Mount will complete the numbers in the final third, with Benjamin Sesko being a backup option on the bench.

Predicted Manchester United XI: Bayindir; Yoro, de Ligt, Shaw; Dalot, Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Dorgu; Mbeumo, Mount; Cunha
