Yoane Wissa remains keen on Newcastle United move despite Tottenham links
Yoane Wissa continued to prefer a switch to Newcastle United despite Tottenham maintaining their interest, as a move could still materialise before the deadline.
According to Craig Hope, Newcastle United are still Yoane Wissa’s priority destination as Tottenham still retains an interest. The magpies are still in the mix for the DR Congo star despite the signing of Nick Woltemade, but may have to cave down to Brentford’s demands.
Newcastle United have thoroughly struggled for relevance in the summer market after several high-profile rejections. The priority for Eddie Howe was to address the attacking positions, and they did start well with the arrival of Anthony Elanga.
However, it’s the striker position they have struggled to recruit in, following several high-profile players turning down a move to St James Park. Bringing in a new centre-forward is certainly linked with the Alexander Isak saga, as the wider expectations suggest that Newcastle United might allow the Swede to leave only if they sign two strikers.
Yoane Wissa has been their primary target to replace the departed Callum Wilson, and they have retained hope despite Brentford rejecting multiple bids. The DR Congo striker, who has been a key man for the Bees with 49 Premier League goals so far, still maintains his preference to join the Magpies despite the suggestion that Tottenham are still interested.
Spurs could be on the lookout for a market opportunity to improve their goal-scoring numbers, and Thomas Frank knows the importance of Wissa. However, the 49-goal Premier League striker prefers a switch to Newcastle United, with the hope that a move could be possible before the transfer deadline.
Newcastle United could sign Yoane Wissa before the deadline
Newcastle United did sign Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart, and many have continued to suggest that the German star is a replacement for Wilson. However, should the Magpies concede defeat in their efforts to keep Isak, Wissa is the natural replacement, as a late move is still on the cards.
Much will depend on somewhat tricky factors, given that they will probably only sell Isak if a bid closer to their valuation of the striker arrives from Liverpool. However, one might suspect that they will only sign Wissa if they can manage to sell the Swede, and there’s a possibility that the Magpies may run out of time before solving those complex issues.
