Fulham in transfer tussle to sign Federico Chiesa

Fulham will reportedly look to sign 27-year-old Italian international Federico Chiesa from Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Federico Chiesa is the subject of interest from Fulham. The Cottagers are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. So, the 27-year-old Liverpool winger has emerged as a target for the West London club.

Several Serie A giants, including Atalanta, are also keen on signing the former Juventus attacker, and Fulham will face a tall order to land him. Meanwhile, Liverpool may offer Chiesa as a sweetener to seal the deal for the wantaway Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

Federico Chiesa and Liverpool limbo

Federico Chiesa has continued to struggle since joining Liverpool from Juventus last summer. The 27-year-old arrived at Anfield after a dreadful campaign with the Bianconeri, with his performance levels dropping after a long-term knee injury. So, while Chiesa was a low-risk signing for the Merseyside club, he could not even complete 500 minutes of game time across 14 appearances for Liverpool, managing only two goals and two assists.

However, Chiesa may feel he can turn things around at Anfield after scoring the match-winning goal against Bournemouth last week. Arne Slot also lauded the Italian international after the game. Recent reports have claimed that he has decided to commit his short-term future to Liverpool. However, Fulham will aim to secure his services in the final days of the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Fulham’s interest in Federico Chiesa is understandable. The Cottagers are scouring the market for multiple wide attackers after parting ways with Reiss Nelson and Willian earlier this summer. Several candidates, including Philip Otele, have emerged on Fulham’s radar, with Chiesa also a viable target.

However, with several Serie A giants present in the equation, Fulham may face a tall order to land Chiesa. Additionally, Liverpool may offer the former Juventus attacker in the deal to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United.

So, while Chiesa remains committed to Liverpool, the next few days will come with uncertainties surrounding his long-term future. It will be interesting to see if the 27-year-old Italian international is still at Anfield on September 2.
