Tottenham eyeing Alexander Sorloth swoop
Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly look to sign 29-year-old Norwegian international Alexander Sorloth from Atletico Madrid in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Alexander Sorloth is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing a striker in the summer transfer window. So, the 29-year-old Atletico Madrid centre-forward has emerged as a target for the North London outfit.
The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners want to take advantage of Sorloth’s situation, as the experienced striker is increasingly frustrated at Atletico Madrid, with his game time dwindling at the onset of the 2025/26 season. While Los Rojiblancos would not have considered parting ways with the player under “normal circumstances”, they are open to his departure this summer.
Alexander Sorloth and his resurgence
Alexander Sorloth has resurrected his fortunes since returning to La Liga two years ago. The Trondheim native struggled for consistency for much of his professional career before landing on his feet after joining Villarreal from RB Leipzig in July 2023. The 29-year-old was among the top scorers in the 2023/24 La Liga season, and he has been prolific thus far for Atletico Madrid.
The Norwegian international enjoyed an exceptional 2024/25 campaign, amassing 24 goals and two assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. However, Sorloth is disgruntled at Atletico Madrid amid his dwindling game time, and a return to the Premier League may be on the cards. The situation has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Tottenham Hotspur among the prospective suitors vying for his signature in the summer transfer window.
London return on the horizon?
Tottenham Hotspur’s interest in Alexander Sorloth is understandable. The Lilywhites are scouring the market for a striker this summer after Dominic Solanke blew hot and cold in his debut season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. While the resurgent Richarlison provides a solid alternative after his excellent performance in Gameweek 1 against Burnley, the North London club can do with another striker.
Several candidates, including Nicolas Jackson, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Sorloth also emerging as a viable target. The 2024/25 UEFA Europa League winners want to take advantage of the experienced striker’s growing frustrations at Atletico Madrid.
Meanwhile, the Colchoneros are open to cashing in on the 29-year-old Norwegian international. It will be interesting to see if Sorloth joins Tottenham Hotspur in the final days of the summer transfer window.
