Danny Murphy tells Manchester United to pursue Gianluigi Donnarumma deal

Manchester United have been urged to pursue Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer.

In comments via TEAMtalk, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes that Manchester United should make a move for 26-year-old Italy international Gianluigi Donnarumma as he stares at a move away from Paris Saint-Germain.

He said, “I think Manchester United should go for Gianluigi Donnarumma. Not only is he a brilliant goalkeeper, but he’s also got huge presence and great experience. He’s won major trophies for both club and country, and he has that ability to single-handedly win you football matches and save you points. That is something United have been lacking for a while.

“Signing him could be the difference between a couple of places in the league, maybe top eight and top six. If they do get him, I think they’re capable of a top-six finish. Without him, I’d probably have them in the top eight, but they’re going to have a better season either way.”

The player is reportedly on Manchester City’s radar as well, with PSG placing a potential price tag of around €50 million on him. Donnarumma has already agreed on personal terms with Pep Guardiola’s side as well.

Manchester United, however, are in desperate need of a reliable first-choice goalkeeper following a series of costly errors. Andre Onana has been error-prone since joining the club, while Altay Bayındır made a high-profile mistake against Arsenal in the Premier League opener.

Manchester United need to sign Donnarumma

Manchester United need an upgrade if they want to compete for trophies and secure Champions League football next season. Donnarumma is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and has proven himself for both club and country. He has recently helped PSG win domestic titles as well as the UEFA Champions League.

At around €50 million, the 26-year-old could prove to be an excellent investment, especially considering his age and experience. He could solidify Manchester United’s goalkeeping position for years to come.

Manchester City also face a potential goalkeeping dilemma, with Ederson Moraes expected to leave this summer. While Donnarumma would be a ready-made replacement, Manchester City have already signed James Trafford, who impressed on his Premier League debut. This may impact their pursuit of the Italian international.

For Manchester United, however, Donnarumma would undoubtedly be an undisputed starter and a transformative signing for Ruben Amorim’s squad. There have been rumours that PSG have tried to keep the player at the club, but they failed to secure a contract extension with him. It seems that the former AC Milan ace is open to a new challenge, and the Premier League could be ideal for him at this stage of his career.
