Tottenham preparing bid to sign Nico Paz

Tottenham are reportedly prepared to make a bid for Nico Paz to tempt the playmaker into a move, but plenty of complications lie ahead.

According to Marca, Tottenham are reportedly preparing a move for Nico Paz to solve a problem position in their squad. Spurs have so far failed with at least two high-profile moves, as they could make a late dash for the Como playmaker, but Real Madrid could make their pursuit difficult.

Tottenham suffered yet another blow to their transfer plans on Wednesday after missing out on a big target. Earlier in the summer, they failed with a move for Morgan Gibbs-White amid controversial circumstances and on Wednesday, having come agonisingly close to signing Eberechi Eze, they have lost out on him too.

Eze is now close to joining Arsenal after a late hijack on Wednesday amid an injury to Kai Havertz. Missing out on the Crystal Palace star has dealt Spurs a big blow in their quest to sign a new attacking midfielder after the serious injury to James Maddison.

They did pivot to Morgan Rogers as an alternative, but there are obvious complications to get a deal done, as Aston Villa are unlikely to sell him. They could revive an interest in another player, Nico Paz, having reportedly failed with a bid earlier in the window.

Paz has had a solid first season with Como over in Serie A, and is in high demand amid interest from many top clubs, including Spurs. The north Londoners are reportedly preparing an offer to test Como’s resolve in the midfielder, although there’s a big hurdle in the form of Real Madrid ahead.

Tottenham faces Real Madrid hurdle in Nico Paz chase

Tottenham knows that signing Paz will not be straightforward by any means, mainly due to Real Madrid’s involvement in the player. The Spanish giants had inserted a series of clauses, including multiple options to buy him back, sell-on percentages and matching rights.

Real Madrid will frustrate Tottenham’s pursuit of Paz despite Como having the freedom to accept a big bid. Florentino Perez envisages the player back in the team in the future, which might see the Madrid supremo exercise his powers on the Argentine should Spurs make a move for the highly-rated South American playmaker, meaning this move may not materialise.
