Official | Union Berlin sign striker Andrej Ilic on a permanent basis

Union Berlin officially confirmed one of their two rumored striker signings yesterday. Serbian youth international Andrej Ilic signed a four-year-deal with the Bundesliga club recently gained traction with this spring. Terms of the deal with Ilic’s now former Ligue 1 parent club of Lille OSC were not divulged.

Once given a chance to play by FCU head coach Steffen Baumgart, Ilic thrived in Köpenick during the 2024/25 Bundesliga Rückrunde. Ilic’s seven league goals left him the second most prolific scorer in the Union squad. The team’s leading scorer, Benedict Hollerbach, signed with Mainz over the weekend.

Andrej has integrated excellently into our team in a short period of time,” Union managing director Horst Heldt noted in a statement accompanying the signing. “With his performances on the pitch, he has proven that he can help us in the long-term. He brings the physical presence, goal-scoring instinct, and mentality that we need in attack. We are delighted that he will continue to wear our tricot in the future.

I felt at home at Union from day one,” the player himself added. “Even though things didn’t go quite as I had hoped in the first few months, I could feel the growing confidence in me and my abilities. The fact that I was then able to contribute so well and that we won important games together makes me very happy. I am now all the more delighted to continue to be part of this team and this special club.”
