Neymar Returns to Santos, Eyes 2026 World Cup Comeback

Brazilian superstar Neymar has officially announced his return to Santos FC, the club where he began his professional career, after an injury-ridden spell with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia.

Back to Where It All Began

The 32-year-old forward, who played for Santos from 2009 to 2013, took to social media to confirm his comeback:

"I will sign a contract with Santos Futebol Clube. My feelings for the club and fans have never changed."

Santos warmly welcomed him back, replying:

"Your home awaits you. Your people await you."

A Struggle in Saudi Arabia

Neymar joined Al Hilal in August 2023 with a reported $104 million salary, but injuries severely limited his impact. He played just seven matches before rupturing a cruciate ligament in his left knee during a 2026 World Cup qualifier for Brazil. His repeated injury setbacks led Al Hilal coach Jorge Jesus to admit:

"He can no longer play at the level we are used to."

World Cup Motivation

Neymar's decision to return to Brazil over a potential move to MLS is fueled by his ambition to represent Brazil at the 2026 World Cup in Mexico, the U.S., and Canada.

"Now I need to play again," Neymar stated. "And only a club like Santos can provide the love I need to prepare for the coming challenges."

The Challenge Ahead

Santos, who recently returned to Brazil’s top division after a season in the second tier, will rely on Neymar’s experience to compete in the São Paulo State Championship, Brazilian Cup, and the Brasileirão, starting in March.

Despite concerns that his best days are behind him, Neymar’s return is expected to generate immense excitement among Santos fans, who still see him as the club’s modern-day icon, following in the footsteps of Pelé.

Can Neymar revive his career and secure a final shot at World Cup glory? Time will tell.
