Mikel Arteta reveals key Arsenal figure is set for a new contract
Mikel Arteta has revealed Arsenal's set-piece coach is in talks over extending his contract with the club.
The Gunners displayed their prowess from dead-ball routines again during Wednesday's 2-0 win over Manchester United.
Jurrien Timber and William Saliba both scored from corners in the absence of Gabriel, who also scored a header from a corner against West Ham on Saturday.
Set-piece coach Nicolas Jover has been praised, with Arsenal having now scored 22 goals from corners since the start of last season, more than any other side.
Arteta has confirmed Jover and other member of his stuff are in talk to sign new contracts, with the former reportedly set for a pay rise.
'It is difficult because four or five people committing at the same time is not easy to do,' the Spaniard said ahead of Arsenal's trip to Fulham on Sunday.
Arteta previously described Jover as a 'very special person' and 'a vital part of the team.'
Jover is becoming a much-loved figure at the Emirates as his set-piece wizardry has helped Arsenal gain an edge on their rivals - including in the 3-2 derby win over Tottenham in April.
He made the headlines in October last year when Manchester City's Kyle Walker appeared to snub a handshake from Jover after Arsenal beat them 1-0 at the Emirates.
There is history there because Jover worked in the same role for Pep Guardiola at City between 2019 and 2021, before linking up again with Arteta at Arsenal.
Gary Neville took aim at Jover during Arsenal's win over Manchester United in midweek.
'The set-piece coach at Arsenal, he's got to be the most annoying bloke in football,' Neville said on The Overlap's watchalong of the game.
Berlin-born Jover began his career as a video analyst at French club Montpellier and briefly served in a similar role for the Croatia national team.
