Marco Asensio Hopes Late Winner Against Chelsea Ignites Aston Villa’s Season

Marco Asensio, Aston Villa’s match-winner against Chelsea, believes his side’s dramatic 2-1 comeback victory could be the spark they need to climb the Premier League table. The Paris Saint-Germain loanee, who scored both goals for Villa, delivered a standout performance to end his team’s five-game winless run in the league and boost their hopes of a top-five finish.

Villa’s late triumph, sealed by Asensio’s 89th-minute strike, lifted them to seventh in the standings. The Spanish forward, who netted his first goals for the club, hopes the result will provide the momentum needed as they prepare for a quick turnaround with a trip to Crystal Palace on Tuesday.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Asensio said: *“We knew today was important, and we had to win. We did that, so I’m very happy. Now we have to keep going. On Tuesday, we have another match, and the mentality has to be to win every game.”*

Chelsea took an early lead through Enzo Fernandez in the eighth minute, but Villa fought back. Asensio’s first goal came after he turned in a cross from Marcus Rashford, with the effort initially ruled out for offside before being confirmed by VAR. His second, a volley from another Rashford delivery, slipped through the hands of Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to secure a dramatic victory.

*“I’m so happy,”* Asensio added. *“The team’s performance was incredible, and the atmosphere was amazing. We’re working hard, integrating new players, and building something special. We’re on the right path, and we need to keep pushing.”*

The win not only ended a frustrating run of results but also highlighted the potential of Unai Emery’s side as they continue to gel and find their rhythm. With the Premier League race heating up, Asensio’s heroics against Chelsea could prove to be a turning point in Villa’s season. As they head to Selhurst Park on Tuesday, the focus will be on maintaining momentum and climbing further up the table.
