Official: Barcelona announce injury blow
La Liga giants Barcelona have this week announced a setback on the personnel front. This comes amid confirmation that Rodri is set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.
Midfielder Rodri for his part set alarm bells sounding in Catalunya’s capital on Tuesday night. Afforded a starting berth in Barcelona’s Champions League meeting with Aston Villa, the 30-year-old was hooked from proceedings at half-time.
Speaking to the media post-match, Hansi Flick revealed that his midfield metronome was dealing with a muscular complaint.
Upon returning to base at the Ciutat Esportiva earlier today, Rodri was in turn put through a round of tests and scans by Barcelona’s medical department.
And these tests revealed a hamstring injury, which is expected to keep the former Manchester City man sidelined for a period of around four weeks:
‘Rodrigo Hernández has undergone medical tests following the muscle discomfort he experienced during yesterday’s match against Aston Villa.
‘The tests have confirmed a minor injury to his right hamstring.
‘He will miss next Sunday’s match against Atlético Madrid. His exact recovery time will depend on how the injury develops.’
