Ex-Newcastle United duo ready to reunite with Eddie Howe if he joins Manchester United

Eddie Howe could have familiar faces such as Jason Tindall and Stephen Purches alongside him if he takes the Manchester United job in the coming period.

According to TEAMtalk, Eddie Howe is currently viewed as the favourite to replace Michael Carrick at Manchester United, and he could reunite with two ex-Newcastle United colleagues if he takes the job. Howe would likely have Jason Tindall and Stephen Purches by his side in the dugout at Old Trafford if he were approached for the role.

Old Trafford was vocal on Sunday in showing where the supporters’ loyalties lay during the latest saga at Manchester United. The club lost their home match against Bournemouth 3-0, with the crowd supporting Michael Carrick at full-time while jeering the players for their poor display on the pitch.

As things stand, Carrick is under tremendous pressure over his position, with the consensus pointing towards an imminent change in the dugout. Several prominent names are being considered, with Jason Wilcox reportedly leading the recruitment process to appoint the club’s next manager to replace Carrick.

Julian Nagelsmann is a reported option, while there are suggestions that the club could prioritise a manager with Premier League experience. Unai Emery is a strong contender, although there are suggestions that Fabian Hurzeler may not be available, while Eddie Howe is now seen as the favourite.

Eddie Howe could reunite with ex-Newcastle United duo

Howe carries immense managerial experience following his time with Bournemouth and, in particular, Newcastle United. He helped the Magpies end their long trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup in 2024 and is now considered a key contender for the Manchester United job, with Wilcox pushing to secure his signature.

There have been reports of contact with Howe, and the process could accelerate once Manchester United decide on Carrick’s future. Should the English manager end up in the Old Trafford dugout, he could bring two of his trusted deputies from his time at St. James’ Park.

Howe could reunite with assistant manager Jason Tindall and first-team coach Stephen Purches at Old Trafford, with the former Newcastle United duo viewed as vital members of his coaching department. At present, the Red Devils are finalising their decision on the club’s next manager, and should that materialise into appointing Howe, the coaching duo could arrive alongside the former Magpies boss.
