Toulouse open talks to extend contract of Aston Villa & Ipswich Town target Guillaume Restes
Guillaume Restes (21) almost left formative club Toulouse FC over the summer. The goalkeeper was, at the very least, “focused” on a departure from Le TéFéCé, his entourage told L’Équipe. However, there wasn’t the necessary movement at the interested clubs in order for a move to take form. Olympique de Marseille, who failed to make a single signing, were touted as a potential suitor.
L’Équipe understands that the likes of Aston Villa, Napoli, and Ipswich Town were all in for the Frenchman. Restes ultimately stayed at Toulouse and held positive talks with incoming manager Jens Berthel Askou. The academy product remains an uncontested presence between the sticks at Toulouse. Viewed as one of the most promising goalkeepers of his generation, Zinédine Zidane handed Restes his France debut during the most recent international break.
He is aware that his debut with Les Bleus could elicit more interest, and he is “prepared” for interest from big clubs, his entourage have said. However, in the meantime, Toulouse have opened contract extension talks. His current deal runs until 2028.
