Julian Nagelsmann open to Manchester United move after being sounded out

Julian Nagelsmann would be open to taking over at Manchester United, with the former Bayern Munich manager already sounded out over a potential move.

According to The Telegraph, Nagelsmann would be prepared to take the role at Manchester United if a deal were to materialise. The former Germany and Bayern Munich manager has been approached about a possible move to Old Trafford, as Michael Carrick’s position faces more intense scrutiny than ever.

Carrick is under renewed pressure following another result that has raised questions about his future. Manchester United endured a terrible evening away to Como in the Champions League, with the Italian newcomers producing a devastating performance to defeat the Red Devils 4-1.

The result means Manchester United have managed only two wins in 11 matches across all competitions, with those victories coming against Ipswich Town in the league and Sabah in the Champions League. Before the match against Como, Manchester United were not seriously considering dismissing Carrick, although their stance could change dramatically following Wednesday’s result.

As the situation surrounding Carrick continues to develop, several names are already being discussed as potential replacements. Antonio Conte, Eddie Howe and Fabian Hurzeler have all been mentioned in media reports, although the latter is reportedly happy at Brighton and may be ruled out as an option.

Julian Nagelsmann receptive to Manchester United role

Another name linked with the Manchester United job is former Bayern Munich and Germany manager Julian Nagelsmann. The Bundesliga-winning manager was one of the candidates under consideration before the summer, but talks never materialised because of Carrick’s performances during the second half of last season, which ultimately led to the Englishman receiving a permanent contract.

Nagelsmann was reportedly open to taking over at Manchester United earlier, and it is now being suggested that he remains receptive to the idea. According to talkSPORT, the German has already been sounded out over a potential move, with sporting director Christopher Vivell among those who have long supported his appointment.

Whether Nagelsmann would be the right man to take the team forward remains the question. However, he possesses a strong reputation and considerable experience, qualities that may be required at Old Trafford.

Alex Crook reported that Carrick is expected to remain in charge when Manchester United host Bournemouth at the weekend. However, a decision on his future could be imminent if poor results continue. Should the club decide to make a change, Nagelsmann appears to be one of the leading candidates.
