Real Madrid summer signing breaks Guti’s record in win over RB Leipzig

Real Madrid star Yan Diomandé secured for himself a place in the storied history books of Los Blancos on Wednesday night. This came courtesy of the Ivorian’s latest exploits on the continent.

Real Madrid are of course fresh off making it three wins from three to open their Champions League campaign.

After welcoming German outfit RB Leipzig to Spain’s capital, José Mourinho’s troops emerged on the right side of a dominant 4-1 result.

The aforementioned Diomandé was forced to make do with a place on the bench from the off at the Santiago Bernabéu, before being introduced to proceedings during the 2nd-half.

And safe to say, the 19-year-old went on to make his cameo one to remember. After first laying on an assist for Kylian Mbappé, Diomandé soon turned goalscorer himself, rifling a stunning volleyed effort into the top corner.

And as alluded to above, in the process, the summer arrival in La Liga etched his name into the history books. As revealed by statisticians Opta:

‘At 19 years and 341 days, Yan Diomande has become the youngest Real Madrid substitute to score and assist in a UEFA Champions League match.

‘The previous record was held by Guti against Molde in September 1999 (22 years and 325 days).’
