High-flying Nerazzurri attack but many big chances missed: A look at Christian Chivu’s Inter
Since the start of the 2026/27 Serie A campaign, the defending champions Inter have picked up from where they left off last season, maintaining an excellent run of form as they find themselves unbeaten within their first five games of the season (four wins and one draw) and level on points with Roma at the top of the league.
Milanese journal La Gazzetta dello Sport highlights the Nerazzurri’s superb display in the final third, as Christian Chivu’s men are the best offensive team of the league with a total of 15 goals in the opening five fixtures, averaging three goals a game.
However, despite a high-flying Beneamata attack, there is still plenty of room for improvement as Inter have created a total of 28 big occasions thus far and a total of 20 have been completely botched. Whilst the Biscione have been creating many chances, their conversion rate has been quite underwhelming.
Furthermore, Inter have been very frail in the back-line, suffering three consecutive total black-outs where they went down 2-0 in the first 45 minutes and having to make a comeback in order to attain essential points.
Although in the Serie A they have managed to complete the “rimonta” on each of those occasions, this lack of concentration must be resolved as it is indeed unsustainable if Inter want to win the league and if they have high ambitions for the Champions League, as we have seen at the Santiago Bernabeu where the Nerazzurri were punished going down by two goals against Jose Mourinho’s Real Marid, ultimately losing the match 2-1.
With Inter having already conceded eight goals in the top-flight Italian league, one more than last season within the same amount of games played, Chivu and his men look to restore structure and focus and they prepare to make a major stride towards winning a second consecutive scudetto following the International break, with full-back Djed Spence and Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu both expected to be deemed available at the Romanian tactician’s disposal for next week’s fixture against Parma.
