Barcelona star Rodri has this week provided his take on the refereeing controversies stemming from last weekend’s Madrid Derby.

This comes as chatter continues to circulate surrounding a pair of potential red cards for Diego Simeone’s Atlético side.

When all was said and done at the Metropolitano, it was the hosts who emerged triumphant, thanking goals on the part of Alejandro Grimaldo and Jonathan David for a 2-1 win.

But their eventual victory was shrouded in controversy. Atléti pair Lee Kang-in and Cristian Romero toed the disciplinary line with challenges during the first-half, both of which Real Madrid were adamant should have culminated in straight red cards.

Opinion has since varied on the subject, as fans from both sides of the Madrid divide continue to plead their side’s cases.

Speaking during his own exchange with the media this week, the subject of the fallout from the derby was in turn put to Barcelona star and Spanish international Rodri by COPE.

And the summer arrival in Catalunya’s capital provided the following take on the red card incidents:

“I think Cuti’s is more difficult because I don’t know whether he can pull his foot away or not, and maybe Kang-in Lee’s, which I honestly don’t think he did on purpose, maybe that one could have been a red. I think referees can make mistakes sometimes.”
