Liam Rosenior’s reunion with his former supporters was eventful, to say the least. Appointed as Paris FC manager this summer, the English coach faced and beat (2-1) his old club, RC Strasbourg Alsace, last weekend. It was a victory with a taste of revenge for Rosenior, who had been insulted by some of the away supporters in the away end and who used the post-match celebrations to provoke them, sparking a scuffle as the final whistle blew.

His attitude drew criticism from Dimitri Liénard, a former Racing legend turned consultant for the programme Club Racing. “I do not condone insults that target family members. But if managers start doing that, going up to the stands…,” began the former captain of the Alsatian club, condemning the behaviour.

Highlighting the difficult end to Rosenior’s journey, Liénard criticised him in particular for his behaviour when he left Strasbourg to join Chelsea, pointing to a certain lack of humility. “What was he thinking? That we were going to erect a statue in his honour? That we were going to roll out the red carpet for him? That we were going to pop the champagne?” he asked. “But you’re mad, my friend! I think he’d forgotten the club’s values.”

A sentiment that Mamadou Sarr’s (21) departure did nothing to alleviate either. “He’s talking to us about the Champions League – ‘be happy if I win the Champions League, be proud of me’ – but are you having a laugh, lad? You leave for Chelsea mid-season, you take a defender who’s been a rock for us, and then you come back to lecture us? It’s completely out of this world; frankly, I was very disappointed.”
