Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United have been told to sign 24-year-old Dutch striker Brian Brobbey from Sunderland next year.

According to Darren Lewis on talkSPORT, Brian Brobbey, with his hat-trick against Manchester City, showed a “terrific example” of how a centre-forward should play. He then suggested that Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United need such a striker in their squads.

Darren Lewis said, “It was a fantastic example of terrific centre forward play. He was bullying centre-halves, latching onto balls from the wide areas. The way that [manager] Ronald Koeman played him was superb because he was just a one-man wrecking ball. I see him as an option at Liverpool…with his strength, but his vision and his ability to read the game so well.”

“And to take advantage, latch onto one centre-half, then another. And just intimidate and frighten the life out of them. Man United could really do with somebody with that capability. I think Arsenal could [too], absolutely.”

How has Brian Brobbey fared in the Premier League?

Brian Brobbey has finally landed on his feet after joining Sunderland from Ajax in a €20 million deal last summer. The Dutchman had lost his way after his first spell with the Eredivisie giants ended, having been regarded as one of the world’s most promising young strikers back then. However, the 24-year-old struggled in his spells with RB Leipzig and Ajax (upon returning from Leipzig) before moving to the Premier League.

While not an undisputed first-choice starter, Brobbey was impressive in his 33 outings, amassing 2,029 minutes of game time while contributing 8 goals and 1 assist, producing a rate of a goal contribution every 225 minutes. The Dutch striker also made his mark at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while he recently impressed with a hat-trick against Manchester City in the Premier League.

A big move beckons?

Arsenal will likely pursue a striker next year after choosing not to sign one in the summer transfer window. While the North London club sold Gabriel Jesus to Barcelona, Viktor Gyokeres faces an uncertain future at the Emirates after being slow off the blocks in his second season with the North London club. So, Arsenal should sign a centre-forward to replace the struggling Swede.

Meanwhile, Brian Brobbey has been on Manchester United’s wishlist for an extended period. The continued interest is logical, as Joshua Zirkzee continues to face an uncertain future at Old Trafford. Brobbey can thus arrive as Benjamin Sesko’s alternative, with his powerful style of play making him a viable substitute.

As for Liverpool, despite Darren Lewis’s suggestion, the Reds do not need a striker. While Alexander Isak is the only centre-forward in Andoni Iraola’s squad due to Hugo Ekitike’s absence, the Frenchman is expected to return in a few months. The Merseyside club should instead pursue a right-sided winger, as they have yet to sign a successor to Mohamed Salah.

After the suggestion from Darren Lewis, it is unclear if Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are ready to pursue Brobbey.
