La Liga giants Real Madrid have on Tuesday announced a personnel setback in the club’s first-team ranks. This comes amid confirmation of Federico Valverde being set for an incoming spell on the sidelines.

Midfielder Valverde for his part set alarm bells ringing in Spain’s capital this past weekend. En route to a derby day defeat for Real Madrid, the Uruguayan was on the receiving end of a heavy challenge from Lee Kang-in.

Post-match, it was revealed that Los Blancos’ captain was in turn suffering with an ankle problem. Valverde was therefore put through a round of medical scans and tests back at Valdebebas over the last 24 hours.

And as alluded to above, on Tuesday, the results of as much have been revealed.

As per a statement across Real Madrid’s official website and social media platforms:

‘After the tests carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a grade 3 sprain in his left ankle. Pending evolution.’

It is as of yet unclear just how long Valverde will be sidelined, but the 28-year-old will not link up with his Uruguayan teammates for the international break.
