La Liga outfit Valencia are putting the final touches on a deal to install a new head coach on the club’s bench. This comes amid the understanding that Javier Aguirre is all set to link up with Los Che.

The brass at Mestalla have of course spent the last week searching the market for a new manager. After making the call to part ways with Carlos Corberán following a dismal opening to the campaign, new sporting director Braulio Vázquez set his sights firmly on the services of Ernesto Valverde.

The former Barcelona and Athletic Club boss, however, ultimately made the call to knock back Valencia’s advances.

A shortlist of alternative targets was in turn drawn up, with the name of the aforementioned Javier Aguirre featuring front and centre.

And if the latest word stemming from the Spanish media is anything to go by, then an agreement between club and manager now appears all but imminent. As per a report from journalist Matteo Moretto of Marca, following his summer departure from the Mexican national team dugout:

‘Javier Aguirre is one step away from Valencia.’
