La Liga giants Barcelona have on Thursday unveiled a statement, regarding the wellbeing of star goalkeeper Joan García. This comes after the former Espanyol man sparked concern in Catalunya’s capital on Wednesday night.

Barcelona were of course back in action yesterday evening, welcoming Racing Santander to the Spotify Camp Nou for a La Liga clash.

The aforementioned Joan for his part featured from the off in the fixture, his 7th successive start to open the campaign. En route to an eventual 7-2 Blaugrana rout, however, the 25-year-old was forced into a premature departure from proceedings.

After slipping on the wet turf whilst attempting to retrieve the ball on the stroke of the interval, the shot-stopper was replaced by Wojciech Szczęsny.

And as alluded to above, a day on, the Barcelona medical staff have provided an update on the wellbeing of the club’s no.1. As per a statement across the social media platforms of the reigning Spanish champions:

‘First team player Joan Garcia is experiencing mild discomfort in his right knee. His evolution will determine his return.

Though not a serious issue, the expectation is nevertheless that Joan will be rested for Barca’s final pre-international break outing against Sevilla this weekend.
