‘This is an important victory’: Moroccan striker scores first goal for Anderlecht in victory over KV Mechelen

Anderlecht opened the Belgian Pro League weekend with a win over KV Mechelen on Friday evening. It was a hard fought 1-0 victory for the Mauves, and the fans will be delighted to see their new striker, Tawfik Bentayeb open his account for the club. The Moroccan striker joined during the recent transfer window following a decent season in the second tier of French football.

Speaking to the media after the game, Man of the Match Bentayeb said ‘We are very happy with the win; this is a boost for the group. It was a tough match on a heavy pitch. But this is an important victory‘. For Anderlecht, this was their third win of the season as new head coach Vitor Bruno looks to try and get the side back to being a force in Belgian football. Anderlecht, since losing to their city rivals Union St Gilloise, have now gone unbeaten in three games.

For Bentayeb, it only took four games to get off the mark. The 24-year-old from Morocco has now started two games in a row and fans of Anderlecht will hope that he can deliver a similar season to the one he provided Troyes with last season. Bentayeb, who was on loan from Moroccan side Union Touarga Sportiff, scored 20 goals in Ligue 2 for the side last season.
