Barcelona star beaten to UCL Player of the Week by former Blaugrana teammate

A recent departure from the attacking ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona beat current Blaugrana star Raphinha to the award for Player of the Week in the Champions League.

The player in question? Ferran Torres.

Frontman Ferran is for his part fresh off a European debut to remember in the colours of Paris Saint-Germain. After swapping Barcelona for Paris this past summer, the World Cup winner featured from the off on Wednesday night, in his new employers’ Champions League season opener.

And Ferran responded with a hat-trick, en route to a 6-1 drubbing of Slovan Bratislava. This proved enough to secure for the 26-year-old a place on the shortlist for the competition’s Player of the Week prize.

Also in the running was ex-Barcelona partner-in-crime Raphinha, alongside Real Betis defender Marc Bartra, and Stuttgart hat-trick hero Ermedin Demirović.

But as alluded to above, upon the votes being counted on Friday, it was Ferran who beat out the competition to clinch the award.

🚨⭐️ OFFICIAL: Ferran Torres wins UEFA Player of the Week for UCL Matchday 1!
