Filipe Luís unsure of Aleksandr Golovin’s Monaco future

Aleksandr Golovin (30) put in a strong performance at the Parc des Princes as AS Monaco beat Paris Saint-Germain (2-1). There is, however, the possibility that it was his final appearance in a Monaco shirt.

It is reported by Foot Mercato and Nice-Matin that the playmaker is attracting significant interest from his native Russia. Golovin joined Monaco back in 2018 and is by far the most long-serving player in Filipe Luís’ squad. However, he could now be set to depart, with the transfer window in Russia still open. Monaco need to sell players, not only to decrease their wage bill, but also to ensure an injection of funds. Folarin Balogun’s prospective move to Everton was set to do just that, however, his move to Merseyside ultimately fell through at the final moment.

A fee of over €20m has been reported. Golovin started against PSG and, post-match, Ligue 1 Plus questioned Luís about the midfielder’s future at the club. “Honestly, I don’t know. I hope that he stays,” said the ASM manager. “He is a fantastic player. He is the kind of player that is difficult to find [in the market].”
