Game of the week: Paris Saint-Germain v AS Monaco, Friday 20:05 (UK)
This is perhaps the time to face PSG. Physically, the reigning champions are not quite there yet and that was cited by Filipe Luís as a reason for hope as his side head to the Parc des Princes. Luís also surprised PSG when he was Flamengo manager at the FIFA Club World Cup back in 2025. The Principality club are also the only team in Ligue 1 to have a 100% record after two gameweeks. On the face of it, there is plenty of reason for optimism, but it will be interesting to see the effect – if there is one – of the midweek transfer deadline day saga. Lamine Camara’s move to Chelsea was aborted and it will be interesting to see his mindset. In any case, Luís has said that the Senegal international will play a part in the game. The same could also go for the returning Matthis Abline.
By contrast, it was a calm week for PSG. Their transfer business was limited. Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye left in the final days of the window, but those exits were anticipated and the pair hadn’t played for the club this season. This will be the first time this season that Les Parisiens will play in front of their own fans at the Parc des Princes. That could have a bearing on the match, too.
