Barcelona calm summer signing injury fears

La Liga giants Barcelona have on Thursday moved to quell fears surrounding the wellbeing of summer signing Jesse Bisiwu. This comes after the youngster set alarm bells sounding on Wednesday night.

Bisiwu, for those not familiar with his name, is a highly-regarded 18-year-old winger who swapped Club Brugge for Barcelona this summer.

The Camp Nou brass worked tirelessly to make his transfer a reality, making clear their evident belief in Bisiwu’s potential to develop into a future first-team star.

All of a Blaugrana persuasion were therefore forced to hold their breath yesterday evening. After featuring from the off in the Catalan Cup against Sabadell, the attacker was stretchered off in clear distress, following a nasty challenge on his right foot.

In tears as he departed the field of play, murmurs surrounding a potential long-term absence for Bisiwu quickly began to spread.

As alluded to above, however, 24 hours on, club, player and fans alike can breathe a collective sigh of relief. As per a statement across Barcelona’s social media platforms:

‘Player Jesse Bisiwu received a blow to his left thigh during yesterday’s match. The medical tests carried out this morning have confirmed that it is solely a contusion. His return to training is expected in a short time frame.’
