Sunderland target Igor Paixão to stay at Marseille this summer
Olympique de Marseille’s Igor Paixão (26) is not expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes, according to reports from journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
Having been targeted by Sunderland AFC, who are said to have re-established contact with the Olympiques in the last few hours, the Brazilian will therefore be playing in Ligue 1 for a second consecutive season. This turnaround follows OM’s inability to register new players, leading the club to decide to keep its Brazilian winger this summer.
Signed from Dutch side Feyenoord for €30m last summer, Paixão quickly established himself as a key member of the Marseille squad. Having made 42 appearances in the white and blue colours during the 2025-26 season, the Macapá-born player scored 12 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions.
A starter and provider of the assist in OM’s victory over RC Strasbourg Alsace on the opening day of Ligue 1 last week, Paixão, who was injured, did not travel with his team to Monaco on Sunday.
