Former PSV defender on Club Brugge’s radar as a back up to Joaquin Seys
HLN are reporting that, after seeing Bjorn Meijer join Sampdoria, Club Brugge are in the market for a new left-back to back up Joaquin Seys. The paper is reporting that the defending Belgian champions are looking into former PSV defender Matteo Dams, who left the Dutch club in 2025 to join Al-Ahli. The 22-year-old is still under contract with the Saudi-Arabian top flight side until 2029. However, Dams is said to be keen to find a new challenge, although whether he is willing to play back-up to Seys is not clear.
Dams, who has been capped by Belgium at U21 level, came through the PSV academy and made his debut for the senior team during the 2024/2025 season, playing 24 games. Yet it was during this debut season that he was signed by Al-Ahli in January. He went on to play 15 games for Al-Ahli and was part of the team that won the AFC Champions League. He repeated that success the following season as he played 23 games in all competitions for Al-Ahli, providing three assists. Dams has not been a first team regular with Al-Ahli since the move.
