La Liga giants Barcelona have on Monday closed a deal to part with an up-and-coming member of the club’s defensive ranks. The latest Blaugrana talent to have moved on? Jofre Torrents.

The name of youngster Jofre emerged as a prominent one in the media headlines surrounding Barcelona over the last couple of weeks.

After word was forthcoming that the Blaugrana were ready to listen to offers for the 19-year-old, Dutch heavyweights Ajax quickly made known their interest in his signature.

Barca and Ajax have already done business once this summer, in the form of Marc-André ter Stegen’s loan move to the latter.

Despite Jofre having long been held in high regard in Catalunya’s capital, talks, in turn, were opened over the terms of a deal to send the young defender to Amsterdam, too.

And as alluded to above, on Monday, these negotiations have officially borne fruit. As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:

‘FC Barcelona and Ajax have reached an agreement for the transfer of defender Jofre Torrents. FC Barcelona would like to thank Jofre Torrents for his commitment, professionalism and dedication throughout all these years representing the Club, and wishes him the very best of luck and every success in this new stage of his professional career.’

Ajax are understood to have forked over around €5 million for 50% of Jofre’s playing rights.
