Newcastle United, Tottenham interested in Sebastian Krug

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the services of Borussia Dortmund chief scout Sebastian Krug.

Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are tracking Borussia Dortmund’s chief scout Sebastian Krug, whose elite talent-identification record has attracted interest across the Premier League.

According to an update from Ben Jacobs, Newcastle United and Tottenham are understood to be among the interested parties, although they face competition from other Premier League and European clubs for the 43-year-old.

Krug has established himself as one of the most respected figures in Borussia Dortmund’s scouting and recruitment structure over almost a decade at the Bundesliga club. His reputation has been built largely on his ability to identify elite young talent before their value explodes.

The German played a key role in Dortmund’s recruitment of Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham, two of the most successful transfers in the club’s recent history. He was also heavily involved in the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

Those players have subsequently generated around £300 million in transfer income for Dortmund, underlining the value of Krug’s work in the club’s recruitment model. Krug’s influence on the Bellingham family has been particularly notable.

He helped Borussia Dortmund identify both Jude and his younger brother Jobe at an early stage and has developed a close relationship with the family over several years. Jobe Bellingham eventually joined Dortmund from Sunderland last summer.

That connection is just one part of a wider recruitment network that has made Krug an attractive proposition for clubs looking to improve their talent identification. Senior executives from several major Premier League clubs are understood to regularly exchange views with him on recruitment strategy and emerging talent.

His work has also extended beyond Germany and England, with Krug involved in identifying promising young players in Serie A. His ability to operate across different markets has further enhanced his standing among European clubs.

Premier League duo keeping tabs on Krug

For Newcastle United, bringing in someone of Krug’s profile could help further develop their recruitment structure as they look to compete with the Premier League’s established elite. Having sold some of their most valuable assets this summer, the Magpies are now looking to shift to a more youth-oriented project.

Tottenham, meanwhile, could view his experience as valuable as they continue to reshape their squad and recruitment strategy under Roberto De Zerbi. While Spurs have brought in some top talents this summer, they also want to build for the long run with the help of Krug.

With Newcastle United and Tottenham both keeping tabs on him, there is nothing concrete at this point. However, it is one to keep an eye on given the number of clubs that are interested in his services.
