Gent and Anderlecht eventually progress in Europe

Gent and Anderlecht will both be continuing their European qualification campaigns. The two Belgian Pro League sides won their respective ties, with Anderlecht now one step closer to the Europa League, while Gent are in the same position but in the Europa Conference League.

Things were not looking good for Anderlecht after the first 45 minutes. Hammarby had gone ahead after just two minutes thanks to Paulos Abraham, putting the Swedish side ahead in the tie as well as on the night. Danylo Sikan continued his decent pre-season with another goal just after half-time to bring Anderlecht level. With time winding down, Mihajlo Cvetkovic came off the bench to make it 2-1 in the 81st minute, with Tristan Degreef making it more comfortable for Anderlecht just before the 90th minute. Anderlecht will face PAOK in the next round.

Gent required extra-time and penalties to get past Ukrainian side LNZ Cherkasy. After a 0-0 draw in the first leg, the sides could not be separated after another 90 minutes or even extra-time. Gent are well versed to winning penalty shoot outs, with Davy Roef usually coming out on top during shoot outs. Gent went a perfect four for four in the shoot out, with Cherkasy missing twice to see Gent through to the next round. Gent will face IFK Goteborg in the next round.
