Report – Juventus Set Sights on Premier League Goalkeeper to Replace Di Gregorio

Juventus have decided to part ways with Michele Di Gregorio and are already scouring the market for potential replacements. According to Calciomercato, Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has emerged as a top candidate to replace the Italian star.

Di Gregorio had a disappointing season. At one point, he even lost his starting berth to Mattia Perin, failing to convince manager Luciano Spalletti to keep him between the sticks next term. Therefore, Juventus have put him on the chopping block and will listen to offers for the former Monza ace.

Mile Svilar had been the club’s dream signing, only for Roma to turn down their substantial €42 million bid. Gian Piero Gasperini has no intention of offloading his starting keeper, especially now that the Giallorossi are preparing for their first Champions League appearance in nearly a decade.

With Roma reluctant to discuss Svilar’s sale, Juventus have switched their attention to Martinez.

Our take on Juventus & Martinez

Currently away on World Cup duty with Argentina, Martinez continues to impress on the grandest stage. Lionel Scaloni’s men have qualified for the round of 16, with the Villa stalwart conceding just three goals in the tournament so far.

In addition to his brilliant form for Argentina, Martinez has been nothing short of impressive for Villa. His heroics in goal helped Unai Emery’s side win the Europa League trophy last season and secure a top-four finish in the Premier League.

However, Martinez’s contract at Villa Park runs until 2029, with Villa slapping a €15 million price tag on their star. Juventus have already deemed Villa’s demands excessive, knowing the Argentine will turn 34 in September. Still, he’d be a superb short-term option for the Bianconeri.
