Aurélien Tchouaméni’s injury more serious than previously thought

France international midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni (26) is a serious doubt for Les Bleus‘ potential 2026 FIFA World Cup quarter-final, according to L’Equipe. The Real Madrid midfielder has left Friday’s training session after feeling discomfort in his thigh. The 26-year-old won’t feature tonight against Paraguay for France’s World Cup last-16 in Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field. AS Roma’s Manu Koné is expected to fill in for Tchouaméni in France’s double midfield pivot alongside Adrien Rabiot.

L’Equipe understands that Tchouaméni underwent an MRI on Friday to check the extent of his injury. France’s No. 8 suffers from a minor lession that requires minimal healing time, making his participation to France’s potential quarter-final quite unlikely. Should Les Bleus overcome Paraguay’s Albirroja tonight, they’ll play either Canada or Morocco on Thursday, July 9 at Boston’s Gillette Stadium.
