Atalanta interested in Marseille’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Serie A side Atalanta Bergamo are interested in Olympique de Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (30), according to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio.

Hojbjerg was a mainstay in the Marseille side, firstly under Roberto De Zerbi and then under Habib Beye. The Denmark international frequently wore the armband. However, there is no guarantee that he remains at OM. Whilst Di Marzio reports that the Dane is reluctant to leave the Vélodrome, the decision could be taken largely out of his hands. Almost the entire OM team is available for the right price, due to the club’s perilous financial situation. It is a situation that may yet see them excluded from UEFA competition for next season.

For Atalanta, Hojbjerg represents a dream signing. Atalanta’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli was already a fan of the former Tottenham Hotspur player during his time in post at Juventus. For now, however, the midfielder is just out of reach for the Italian side. OM’s financial position may yet open the door.
