‘He is a real leader’ – Didier Deschamps praises Kylian Mbappé’s leadership as France captain
In an interview with M6, France manager Didier Deschamps was asked about the role that Kylian Mbappé (27) plays as captain of Les Bleus after taking the role from Hugo Lloris (39) following his retirement from international football. The Real Madrid forward has come under scrutiny in the past for some of his actions while captain of his nation.
The former Paris Saint-Germain attacker is not just under scrutiny in his homeland after previously refusing selection in favour of focusing on his club form; this scrutiny has also been reciprocated in Spain, where Real Madrid have failed to win a trophy yet again. Dembele has previously weighed in on the criticism stating it has gone too far.
Deschamps backs Mbappé as captain
When asked about the 27-year-old’s role as leader of France, the Les Bleus head coach was resolute in his support of Lloris’ successor. Deschamps said, “He has taken over from Lloris very well. He’s a real leader. I am very pleased with what he can offer both on and off the field.”
