AS Roma emerge as contenders for Mason Greenwood’s signature
AS Roma has emerged as a potential destination for Olympique de Marseille forward Mason Greenwood (24), according to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport. The Englishman, despite announcing a desire to remain with OM earlier this month, is expected to leave the club in the coming weeks.
It is the club’s perilous financial situation that is pushing Greenwood towards the exit. The club invested heavily last summer, only to then miss out on UEFA Champions League qualification. Sales are needed before the end of June and so all of the club’s most bankable assets are available for a price.
No OM player would fetch a higher fee than Greenwood. La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that the former Manchester United forward has many suitors, however, he has given his preference to a move to Serie A side AS Roma. Talks between the Italian side and the player’s father are already underway.
Marseille are demanding a fee of around €60m for the forward. The relationship between OM and Roma is strong following Robinio Vaz’s move in January.
